Season 3 part 2 of Bridergton just released on Netflix today and it’s time to share the final verdict on the show and novel.
To recap, this will be a comparison of Romancing Mr Bridgerton and the Netflix series season 3. Please read my first part before this one and of course, this will be full of spoilers.
I must say, the Netflix series has really outdone itself in the writing. The conflict, humor, and story arcs far outshine any prior season in my opinion.
I love Penelope. Her character is not only relatable but refreshing and so satisfying to finally see her get her happy ending. Both versions I feel truly honor her character but I believe the Netflix series truly lets you see all of her and her progress.
Collin’s character also seems to be mostly the same but I do honestly prefer his portrayal in the Netflix series. He truly shines brighter when he’s around Penelope. He is far more gentle and less angry which I felt suited him more. The pair are so well suited toward the other and it was so sweet watching them finally get together.
Though, one thing that has been aggravating is the friendship between Eloise and Penelope. I was frustrated the entire season that Eloise was pushing her away and actively befriending a terrible person with the purpose to hurt her. I understand the dynamic is tense, but the novel they were friends the entire time. Even post-whistledown reveal which to me, was so nice. I love female friendships that aren’t constantly about finding love or petty arguments. But at the least it all worked out.
However, as much as I loved Penelope’s moment in the Netflix series, revealing herself as Lady Whistledown, I much prefer the dynamic between POLLIN in Romancing Mr. Bridgerton. The Netflix series really drew out the conflict between the pair to the point where they had little time actually being happy in the second part.
I’ve heard a common complaint is that the side couples got more screen time than the main couple and I can’t help but agree. While I did enjoy the side couples, again, with their conflict they barely got any time where they weren’t tense or fighting.
I’ve also heard that there are several deleted POLLIN scenes which is heartbreaking.
So now for my verdict, I think overall, the Netflix has better storytelling and Romancing Mr. Bridgerton had better POLLIN content. I was surprised at the change from part one and two which ultimately lead me to favor the book in terms of the actual romance. But that’s just my opinion and you are free to agree or disagree. It’s fun to talk and compare and it’s been a fun journey reading and watching the two versions.
That’s all for this week. Next week Kamryn will be back so make sure to check out her post. Until next time, write on!
