Monthly Reading Wrap-Up: July 2024

Back again for another fun month of book suggestions? Here are the things Kristin and I have been reading since the last wrap-up. Be sure to tell us if you see any of your favorite reads, something on the never-ending To-Be-Read list, or if you know of a comparable title we might enjoy. Thanks again for reading! Write on.

Kamryn:

For this month, I’m still working on finishing the last book in Marissa Meyer’s The Lunar Chronicles series, Winter, which I was just starting around the last blog. I hope that doesn’t make it sound like a slow book- this concluding novel has been full of unexpected twists and turns as the characters make their final stand to take back Luna from its evil queen. My reading was just slow this month due to being sick or busy.

Winter is the Snow White retelling in the series, named for the beloved Lunar princess, Winter. As I’ve praised in previous blogs, Meyer’s ability to juggle so many characters and roles in this final uprising is still baffling to me. Each main character that’s been brought into the story over the prior three books plays an instrumental part in how things go down that always keeps you on your toes. Overall, this has been a very fun series to read and I can’t wait to find out how it turns out in the few chapters I have left to read.

Though Winter is the final book in The Lunar Chronicles, the set I got has two bonus books which I’m going to go to next while everything’s fresh on my mind. The next in the set is called Stars Above, which seems to be a collection of short stories that go along with the series.

Kristin:

For June, I started a book called The Darkness Outside Us by Elliot Schrefer and Ballad of Sword and Swine by Tang Jiu Qing. unfortunately I am still in the process of reading them but I did read the sixth volume of Seaside Stranger by Kanna Kii. While short, I always love diving back into new volumes and the day to day life of growing up and dealing with personal struggles with your partner. I love this series because while the stakes aren’t life and death, it deals with things like burnout and maintaining relationships, surviving the day to day grind while keeping your sanity in check and how to be a loving partner in the process. It’s like a funny breath of fresh air and I can’t wait to see where the couple’s journey takes them next. If you’re interested in previous novel summaries, be sure to check out the previous Reading Wrap ups!

That’s all for this month! Be sure to let us know what you’re reading and we’ll see you in July! As always, write-on!
